Maukerja / AJobThing: On Job Evaluation (OJE) Programme

(Credits to this website)

I saw this quote on internship from a website.... And I think it's scarily relatable to some interns out there. Some interns were given tasks which are not connected to their job scope, such as making coffee and handling the photocopy machine. Sounds familiar to some of you out there?

Alright... Just like any other students out there, I also need to undergo an internship before I get to graduate with a degree. Since this is my first time having to search for my own internship placement, I've gone through multiple job hunting applications in order to find the perfect place for me. One of the applications used for the job hunting is known as "Maukerja". Fitting to their famous tagline "Cari Sampai Ngam", this application states that they gathered multiple job vacancies in Malaysia and jobseekers can look for their desired jobs within one application.

I was really worried about not being able to get a placement, so I frantically sent my resume to a lot of companies. Due to my panic resume sending, I accidentally sent in my resume to 9 companies at one go via the application. Out of the 9 companies that I tried out in the "Maukerja" application, my resume caught the attention of 3 companies... And one of it was, you guessed it, "Maukerja" themselves. For my placement, I applied as a social media marketing intern.

(Spoiler alert: I didn't get to do my internship here, but I just wanted to share about this company so that more people will know about their unique method to test their potential interns... And yeah, I want more people to come and apply working with "Maukerja".)

The moment I saw their name in the "employer viewed me" section, I jumped with joy and told my best friend that "Maukerja" wanted to interview me. She then told me to read their company's blog posts in order to prep myself for the interview session. One thing that I love about the application is that, there's a "Community" section where I can check on their blog and read on how to nail the interview sessions while finding for a job placement. I swear, their blog posts are helpful in helping me to get through those nerve-wrecking interview sessions.

A few days after the company viewed my resume and CV, I received a phone call from their representative named Wina, and we together agreed on a particular date that I can come to their office. However, there was a plot twist midway... Instead of a normal interview session, I was being told by Wina that the company uses an on job evaluation (OJE) in order to assess whether the job is fitting for the potential candidate or not. For one whole day, I basically "joined" them like a new staff and experience how it feels to work in the applied position. Thus, Wina told me to equip myself with a laptop and do a COVID-19 test before entering the office.

Upon my arrival at their office (which is located inside "Komune Co-Working Space KLCC"), I was greeted with a calming vibe from the reception area. Lately, I am obsessed with minimalist aesthetic... And this co-working space hits the right spot for me. I feel extremely lucky because, in the midst of a busy city like Kuala Lumpur, I get to be at a serene place like "Komune" during my OJE. Here are some of the pictures inside "Komune Co-Working Space" through my lens. (P.S.: The back camera of my phone is broken, and I apologize for the low quality pictures posted here).

Once I entered the office, a "Maukerja" staff named Syuk assigned me with two tasks for my morning and afternoon sessions. For the morning task, I was given to create 8 topics which are interrelated to the job-seeking community, and give points to all the topics that I mentioned earlier. As for the afternoon task, I was being requested to do 2 short videos based on any of the 8 topics that I created earlier. It sounds difficult to me (because I have never worked in this kind of career branch), but thankfully all the staffs at "Maukerja" and "AJobThing" were very helpful and kind towards me.

Since the sessions are divided into two, there's of course a lunch break for all the staffs. As someone who is fairly new to the workplace, I was thinking of having lunch on my own. However, it was coincidental that my day of evaluation happens to fall on the same date as a staff's birthday. So, the staffs invited me to join for a lovely small celebration at Nando's Pavilion KL. I joined Faiz (the birthday boy himself), Reagen, Lipeng, Jeff and Syuk during the lunch break... And we talked a lot too during lunch time. I didn't feel alienated at all throughout the evaluation programme, and I am glad to see a company that doesn't discriminate or belittle their interns.

After I completed both tasks, Syuk and Reagen gave some constructive criticism on the videos that I sent to them. Thanks to this OJE programme, I managed to understand better on the job scope given. Additionally, I'm now signed with another company as their social media intern... And joining this programme earlier allows me to see on what I suppose to IMPROVE as an intern. To me, it's okay to make mistakes. At least, from there, you can see how you progress as an individual.

Ok... At the of the OJE programme, I managed to get an allowance of RM30. Again, as I mentioned earlier, this is like experiencing the intern life at "Maukerja". With just a day worth of experience at "Maukerja", I can say that I love the serene environment and laidback co-workers. Also, it is noteworthy for me to state that they are really particular in choosing their staffs. It's a no surprise because an astonishing company like "Maukerja" deserves to have high-caliber staffs in order to move forward as a whole organization.

To wrap this post all together, I shall answer one last question to everyone.

Will I come and apply at "Maukerja" again? InsyaAllah, yes.
