Oreo x Pokémon: Yay Or Nay?

Man, "Pokémon"... I still remember the first time I got introduced to this cartoon show when I was 5 and I immediately got OBSESSED with Pikachu. It is up to the extent that I feel like my ambition is to be a Pikachu! Well, when I think of it back again as an adult, I think I prefer to be a Pikachu instead of the adult I currently become... I mean, Pikachu just acts cute, says "Pika Pika" and shoots some lightning. That sounds plausible rather than sitting in front of laptop typing out assignments or spending hours choosing the right preset from the Sylenth1 soundbank. With that being said, I realize that my "Pokémon" phase is far from over despite the fact that I am already at my quarter life.

Therefore, I was enthusiastic when I first found out about the collaboration between "Oreo" and "Pokémon". In fact, the personal shopper also stated that I am the first person to buy the limited edition cookies from her. Since the cookies are imported from the US, I had to wait for a whole month before the packaging finally reaches to me. Oh, and for those who are concerned about whether I am eating halal or not, "Oreo" is a 100% vegan and dairy-free cookie. There are no animal or animal by-products involved in the making of "Oreo" cookies. My concept is rather simple: Vegan = Halal.

I just received the cookies today and immediately made a TikTok video upon receiving the said parcel. Yes, I just show my naked and sleep-deprived face to everyone. Just like on 30th of October where I accidentally met my celebrity crush, which is rather embarrassing because he looks like Prince Charming from Disney animated films and I look like a zombie from "Train To Busan". Okay... Maybe this topic needs another entry in my blog. Hahaha...

Coming back to the "Oreo" cookies, I made a super quick TikTok video and showing some of the characters that I pull out from the packaging. As all of you can see, I was delighted when I pulled out Jigglypuff. I always have a soft spot for Jigglypuff despite being an ardent stan of Pikachu. This is due to the fact that Jigglypuff has like a pair of greenish-blue eyes that mesmerize me constantly as well as its talent in singing a good lullaby. If I am a "Pokémon" trainer, I would love to catch Jigglypuff just to make sleep much easier for me. I find it hard to sleep sometimes, and I think that having a Jigglypuff can solve my problem on a daily basis.

@zarakayangan I am back again on TikTok... For #YamChaWithZara ! I am going to show the limited edition Oreo x Pokemon collab. #oreoxpokemon #myfoodie #foodlover ♬ 3rd World Free Boski Trunt Up (feat. Lil Blood) - Lil Goofy

I must say, the first thing I love about this collaboration is the unique design on each cookies. There are also other characters that I pull out such as Piplup, Grookey and Cyndaquil. Actually, while filming the video, I was munching on the Piplup one... Which is why I did not smile until the Jigglypuff part. The original video was recorded in one take, but I chop some irrelevant parts to make the video short and sweet. I still need to learn more about video editing, so pardon me for the choppy video cuts.

The next notable thing that I enjoy is the thickness of the cookie. The cookie layer stays crunchy even after I double dipped it in milk, which the original Oreo cookies lack of. I would easily say that this type of cookie is perfect for making a dessert base due to its long-lasting crunchiness. I vividly imagine using these cookies as a base for a cheesecake, but I feel bad for ruining the cuteness of the "Pokémon" design. Thus, I just eat it as it is.

Despite all the great comments earlier, I am not a fan of the filling layer. It is really unfortunate that this one has like the double stuffed filling. Even a single layer of filling tastes too sweet to my liking, so imagine having twice of the sweetness... Yikes! To solve this issue, I just drink a huge bottle of mineral water after finishing one line of cookies (FYI, there are three lines of cookies... And as of the time of writing, I just finished one line). The water did tone down the sweetness, but I end up feeling bloated due to drinking too much water.

Overall, I would suggest to buy it ONLY if you are a die hard "Pokémon" fan like me. The cookies are just typical Oreo cookies, but they got elevated in some ways. As a huge fan of "Pokémon", I consider the packaging as a memorabilia for me. The cookies were created in conjunction of the 25th anniversary of "Pokémon" (I just found out that this series is as old as me) and this sort of collaboration does not come often. Thus, I would easily say that it is a brilliant collaboration and I hope that the "Pokémon" legacy continues to live eternally.
